ANOTHER rigorous challenge faces Ben Evans this weekend as the Russell Taylor Group principal recruitment consultant hits the road for the London Marathon.
This will be Ben’s first experience of the UK’s biggest marathon event, taking place in the capital on Sunday, October 2. However, it’s just the latest in his growing list of fundraisers that have brought in much-needed money for children’s charities.
Ben, 34, has chosen Children with Cancer UK as his London Marathon focus and has a target of £1,000.
His previous charity fundraisers for Claire House children’s hospice in Wirral have included swimming the full length of Lake Windermere – covering a distance of 11 miles in six hours – in the gruelling Windermere One Way challenge followed two weeks later by the Chester Marathon which he completed in a time of three hours 34 minutes.
He’s also been part of the Russell Taylor Group teams taking part in the Tough Mudder challenge.
Ben says supporting Children with Cancer UK is of great importance to him as he’s become a father for the first time.
He said: “It’s an organisation that funds life-saving research for children with cancer.
“Having recently had my first child, I understand the importance of family and hope my efforts in training for, and running, the London Marathon can bring hope and joy to as many families as possible.”
To reach his fundraising target, Ben, who as well as being an athlete and swimmer is a keen cyclist, commissioned a 10-week training programme from a top triathlon and running coach.
He added: “With a baby only a matter of weeks old, training has not been easy and I’m hoping for lots of support from sponsors who will help me achieve my goal.”
Ben has set up a JustGiving page to reach his £1,000 target. Go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ben-evans-london-marathon
